What's Your Dream Event?

Teams dashed throughout Chicago in costume to show their love for the Windy City, and social media.

Here’s a check for $1,000. Now, go throw your dream event. What will it be? And how will you pull it off?

Several months ago, I sat down with Leyla Arsan from Lotus Marketing, the mastermind behind last year’s FIJI Urban Hunt about this year’s event in Chicago, The Downtown Dash. The Downtown Dash, held on Sep. 10, was a social-media driven scavenger hunt where teams of two competed to finish the most challenges in the set amount of time.

A new addition this year was the Social Engagement Challenge, open for the month leading up to the event. If teams participated in two of the social challenges, they were awarded a head start on race day. Since I love Chicago and social media, I decided that I wanted to be a part of the challenge section. After much brainstorming, we came up with the “Event Of Your Dreams” contest.

Hearing what inspires organizers to create their event is one of the best parts about my job, so it was a no brainer to ask participants to share what would inspire them to create their dream event and how they would execute it. We asked participants to create YouTube video submissions illustrating what dream event their team would create if they were  awarded $1,000. There were some GREAT submissions.

Team Zaarly would organize a Northside/Southside Baseball Party.

Team The Local Tourist would create a Second City Carnival.

Team Strikeforce planned on using Eventbrite to seek Global Domination. (Sidenote: Although Eventbrite does many things to help organizers, we do not suggest you use our product to take over the world.)

Team Runnerds made us laugh with their great video and the promise to donate the $1,000 to charity.

The videos were funny, creative and inspiring. So inspiring, in fact, that I couldn’t even pick one winner at the end! After much deliberation, we decided on TWO winning team entries.

Team Downcock really pulled at our heartstrings with their ReasonToGive.com Art Bazaar event this December. Local artists will sell their goods and donate 50 percent of their proceeds to Reason To Give, so that families in need from Humboldt Park can have their basic needs met this holiday season. Check out their video here, and I dare you to tell me you don’t get goosebumps!

The other team that caught our eye was Team Mag Mile Marilyns, who plan on creating a glamour-filled night for ten deserving young girls in Chicago. Team MMM would treat these lovely young ladies to dinner, mocktails and, of course, a Marilyn Monroe movie to wrap up the evening. Check out their video entry here for the full effect!

EventbriteChicago is SO excited to help the two winning teams create the event(s) of their dreams and help raise awareness and support their cause. Be sure to follow EventbriteChicago on Facebook and Twitter to see how the two winning team’s events turn out!

If you had $1,000 to create your dream event, what would it be?
