It is no secret that I love being an Event Evangelist – I love attending some of the coolest events in Chicago and getting to know the amazingly talented folks putting on these events.
That said, while I have a fantastic time spreading the “good word” about Eventbrite in the Windy City, sometimes it can be tricky juggling every event that I want to attend each week. Luckily, I have discovered some great apps and sites to simplify our lives; from the creation of pre-event buzz, to keeping track of people you’ve met at your function, and perhaps even finding the perfect venue to hold your next event. I want to share them in case they can make your lives any easier!
Hootsuite : Hootsuite is like a babysitter or virtual assitant for all of your social media accounts. I could probably write an entire blog post about my feelings (looove!) for Hootsuite, but I’ll keep it short and sweet.
This is a great tool to use while creating your pre-and post-event buzz. Schedule tweets to go out in the future? Manage more than one social profile per account? Send updates to both Facebook and Twitter? Customize search streams? Quick or custom analytics? Yes, yes, yes and yes! By using Hootsuite, it is a snap to keep all of your social networks updated about your upcoming event, or thank them and get feedback afterward!
Hashable: I had the pleasure of meeting the Hashable team a few weeks ago at their Chicago #hashup. They have an awesome team on top of a great product!
Essentially, Hashable is an easy way to track who you are meeting at live events, instead of coming home with a pocket full of business cards with semi-legible notes scribbled on the back. You can do this from your smart phone, in an email or on the Hashable Web site. Hashable can be used for small meetings or gatherings, but I feel its strengths are at networking events or huge gatherings, such as SXSW, or when you meet someone and have someone you’d love to connect them with. Outside of providing you with a log of who you met and where, it also provides you with a solid address book with contacts from all of your social circles.
Zaarly – Alright, so Zaarly hasn’t officially opened their doors for business yet, but the premise of Zaarly has me so excited that I need to share it anyway.
Zaarly is a local, real-time marketplace where people can request what they are looking for and how much they are willing to pay for it. Can you imagine how great this is going to be for planning events? For example, if I’m looking for a venue in the West Loop, that can fit 200 people and will let me bring in my own DJ and catering, I could just ‘Zaarly’ it and venue owners could respond to my request with an offer. This saves me the many hours calling around and checking out spaces! It could also be great if you get to your event and realized you’ve forgotten something, such as name tags or a power cord. Just ‘Zaarly’ what you need and ask for it delivered right to you. As I mentioned, Zaarly hasn’t launched yet, but you can sign up to be notified here.
