Don’t Drop the Ball This New Years Eve

Halloween has come and gone and Thanksgiving is quickly approaching. At Eventbrite, this can only mean one thing — our favorite time of year is almost here! Whether it’s a 1,000 person EDM concert or an intimate gala for 50, we’ve seen New Years Eve events of all shapes and sizes throughout the past few years.

This year, we want to make sure you don’t ‘drop the ball’ before the ball drops, so we’re sharing our three top tips to make your New Years Eve party a smashing success!

1. Staff your bar! On a night famous for champagne toasts, it’s likely the spirits will be flowing as party-goers look back fondly on 2013 and prepare for an epic 2014.  And as you might imagine, the less time attendees spend waiting for their libation of choice, the happier their NYE toasts will be. Make sure your bar is fully stocked and you have enough bartenders on hand to serve all of your guests.  Most party planning pros and bar owners stick by the ratio of 1 bartender to every 50 guests to keep your guests happy and lines manageable without over-staffing.

2. Man that coat check! Unless your party is taking place in a warm locale, it’s likely that your guests will be showing up with jackets in tow. And, because no one wants to lug around their knee-length puffer coat all night, it’s important to offer guests a place to check their coats. The beginning of the night is easy, because party-goers don’t all arrive at the same time. What organizers tend to forget however, is that most people are leaving at the same time, thus huddling around coat checks and causing the lines to get worse. To avoid this, consider increasing coat check staff towards the end of the night.

3. Limit the lines! If you noticed a trend with this list, let us be the first to reassure you — you’re not crazy. It’s true that attendees (and people in general) strongly dislike lines. NYE party goers want to get into their event as quickly as possible so they can start having a good time with their friends and start ringing in the New Year.
