We’ve had a lot of Tweetups on Eventbrite lately, so it’s been really fun to see all the diversity in the events and to watch how they come together. For the uninitiated, a Tweetup is “A real world meeting between two or more people who know each other through the online Twitter service.” Based on what we’ve seen, the typical Tweetup has eleven attendees and is held at a restaurant or bar, 8 out of ten times. The next most popular venue type was a private residence. We reached out to a number of Tweetup organizers in the hopes of finding out more about what actually happens during Tweetups, but we haven’t heard back. Perhaps Flickr may offer a clue. Tweetups are most commonly named for the cities in which they are taking place, such as the Santa Cruz Tweetup #sctweetup, the Missoula Tweetup, the 1st Ever Laredo Tweetup!, the Northwest Chicago Suburbs Tuesday TweetUp in Arlington Heights, London 2009, and the NEW: Jelly Cincinnati Tweetup, to list just a few. Less typically, a Tweetup is named for a person. I came across these two Tweetups today which happen to be the first two “personal Tweetups” I’ve ever seen. I want to acknowledge Ari Herzog and Aaron Strout and thank them for taking Tweetups, and events in general I think, in a very interesting new social direction. All the best of luck with your events fellas. Something tells me we’re going to see a lot more events like these. I mean think about it, why wait around for birthdays and retirement. Just declare an event with your name on it and pick a local bar. It means “Come hang out with me!” — how cool is that. Create a personal Tweetup today!

Thanks Jack! What a pleasant surprise to be mentioned in your blog today. Regarding the event, it’s funny how my “personal” tweetup evolved. I recently moved to Austin, TX for work but my family has yet to join me. As a result, I’m back in MA from time to time and I still have a lot of friends and former colleagues up here. I thought, why not do a tweetup!
It should be a blast. If you’re in the neighborhood, be sure to swing by!
Best,
