MyEventRocked finalist: Eichler Remodeling Faire

Event name: Eichler Remodeling Faire

Date/location: 5/16/09 — Mountain View, CA

Type: Home show/BBQ

This was a first-time mini-tradeshow and BBQ (produced by Keycon, Inc.) for owners of the San Francisco Bay Area’s mid-century modern homes. With no history behind us, we had no idea how many attendees would show. We built our Eventbrite page, started the marketing, and watched as the attendee meter started to spin. More than 400 turned out.

The event succeeded for many reasons — a sunny California day, an audience passionate about preserving their modern homes, an agile caterer who had to restock three times throughout the afternoon just to keep up, and Eventbrite.

Without Eventbrite, I’m not sure our event would have even been possible. 1) It eliminated the cost of microsite development, database management, and administration. 2) Eventbrite’s SEO strategy pushed our event to #1 in Google, giving us amazing visibility. 3) We were able to collect data and communicate with attendees as we planned the NEXT Eichler Remodeling Faire (which took place last weekend and was a smash success—we had to increase total capacity several times).

We had two groups of attendees, exhibitors and homeowners. Both groups commented—profusely—that the Faire exceeded their expectations by far. With a dozen exhibitors, a catered BBQ, and play areas for the kids, entire families spent the day with us learning remodeling strategies for their homes.

Several exhibitors (tradespeople such as architects, remodeling contractors, floor specialists, and so on) mentioned to us that the relationships they established at the Faire generated sales for the entire year. Some of them credit their survival through the recession to the Faire.
