Fitness #BriteResolutions

running around SFDoes this new year equate to a new you? And are physical health goals at the top of that list? Fitness and health-related achievements are typically at the top of most “resolution” lists. But instead of attempting to convert into a gym rat, another way to get and stay active is checking out a local program or community that you can join to keep you motivated in a group setting.

I know our Eventbrite San Francisco community has a ton of fitness related events available that are totally resolution worthy. Here are a few different options to look for locally when it comes to boosting your fitness and kicking off for stronger and healthier 2013!

  • Bootcamps. Group exercise is the best way to motivate many (myself included), and regular bootcamps are a great way to switch up your workout routine on the regular. Local bootcamp instructor Shannon Wong founded SW Fitness, and is offering a Fit Camp and Weekend Warrior package.
  • 5k and other fun runs. This distance isn’t a huge commitment, and is a great event to invite friends and family to join in on. This weekend in SF there’s a free 5k run/walk hosted by Team in Training, and in April there’s a Sasquatch Scramble in Oakland with 5k, 10k and Half Marathon options.
  • (Half) Marathon Training Programs. These programs are a great way to train with a group and receive coaching that will get you across that finish line! If you’re ready for more of a commitment with your running, Marathon Matt has his recently launched half marathon training program that you can still sign up for to prepare for the Oakland Half Marathon or Rock ‘n Roll Half in San Francisco.
  • Sporting store events. Many sporting goods stores also organize community events and have various activities for people to find others that share their interest for certain sports. The community around one of my favorite places that I spend my paycheck (Sports Basement) is really incredible. You can take a clinic on using clip-in pedals, check out their regular, and they have regular events where they bring in guests speakers and authors for a little motivation.

A few of my fellow City Marketing Managers will be tweeting about resolution-friendly events via Twitter using the tag #BriteResolutions. Feel free to join in with your resolutions for 2013! Mine? To successfully complete the Paris Marathon and attend more Dailey Method classes each week!
