“Black in America” is a CNN documentary about the state of being black in America. Hosted by the lovely Soledad O’Brien, the four-part, eight-hour film is a mosaic of short video vignettes sumbitted by African Americans from all over the United States. According to CNN: “This groundbreaking series examines the lives of African-Americans from all walks of life and forces us to assess the real state of our union on the subject of race. In a year full of historic political milestones and challenging economic obstacles, there is no better time for the national conversation at the heart of Black In America.”
For anyone who didn’t catch the documentary when it first aired earlier this year, this Summer Black in America is on tour and coming to a city near you. CNN and partner Comcast are sponsoring free public screenings in six major American cities, including Detroit tomorrow night, which I do believe is already sold out
Schedule: CNN Black in America Tour.

I am a black woman who has raised 3 successful adults. I do not have a college degree but my children have theirs. I do not relate well with many of the subjects in the documentary but I feel they are important to be heard. It is a start.
Black in America, lets bring it up to date. Lets look at blacks in sports, government, music business and drug business and the blackmailers Rev. Jackson and Al Sharpton how these two blackmail companies to support them. As bad as it might have been for blacks in the pass things look good for them now. Better then it would have been if they were still living in Africa I sure do not see any wanting to move back to Africa. The next time one wants to talk about how bad it is here look what what is going on in Africa. Now tell me how the Native American are doing on reservation, these people could not vote till 1924 and the Appalachian poor Cnn does not want to show this because showing poor blacks stirs up trouble. You should spend more time on the killings and kidnappings on the Mexican border and also the 2 boder patrol guards that are in prison, what is really behind them being in prison ask Glen Beck. Cnn the most trusted name in news not with stories like Black in America. How would you like to be a Native American living on a reservation, tell about that. I do not see Native American TV actors like you do black actors why is that? When TV news wants to show poor people in the US you always run to the poor black again we have Americas living on reservations ( why do not you look up how they got there) believe it or not there is poor white people in the US, not only in the Appalachian MTs but in cities and towns all across the US. If a crime is committed against a black by whites it is head line news but if a crime is committed by blacks against whites it is on the back of the news if that. Is this the best Soledad O’Brien can do, Black in America and CNN is paying her for this, this tells me any one can be a news reporter. I can come up with better specials then this, real stories.
Black in America
Your four hour program was an incomplete picture of the story Blacks in America. ie. Lots of coverage dealing with the problems of Black People in America .
However, how can you talk about Black People in America without talking the institution of White
Supremacy that was created . IT has a deadly impact on its chief target, the Black People of America.
Not a peep was said about the hundreds of year of the stealing of wealth of Black People ,from the period of chattel slavery to this present day. Your progam was an evaluation of a people who have been brutalized emotionally, economiically , physically, and educationally by the system of racism called White Supremacy . It is a system of oppression that morphs from one form to another . It is no different than breaking a mans leg and talking badly about his ability to run the 100 dash.
A much better picture of Black People would include a major segment on how White Supermacy works in America and the deadly impact that it continues to have on Black People. Without this picture, this is just another opporunity for White People to assuage their conscience for being the perpetrators and befeficiary of the human rights crime of White Supremacy.
I saw this program as license for White People to say: WHAT’S THE MATTER WITH BLACK FOLKS ?

I would like to know how I could order films in CNN presents Black in America?
Teach at college and would like to show these . Thanks
when discussing about be black in america, the question is are we becoming 4th class citizen in a country of our birth. I am seeing in america that others from countries that we feel are less off than we are given more of a chance than those of us that are true citizens. Though a lot of us have made mistakes in our lives, we allow other from other countries that we can not run background checks on to come to america and take jobs and services that should be allowed to americans first. I was brought up to take care of home first. I am unemployed, fight for my unemployment benefit for a mistake i made five years ago, be judge for some bad judgement decision i have made, and yet i still sit and watch as non-american go to work, recieve assistance from housing to free money to sit around all day and making excuses. yet i born black in america can not get a job and recieve little to no assistance. Again that is what it is to be born a black “American” to feel like a 4th class citizen in your own country.
You’ve got to be kidding!!!! I’d like to know when and where in this country it’ll be ok to have White in America parts 1 and 2? I’d like to know why the heck it’s OK to have Black oriented organizations and shows but if you tried to do the same with white orientation you’d have Sharpton, Jackson and Winfrey crying racism. It makes me sick when CNN and other TV programs do crap like this. These shows are a major reason why racism still exists today. Show some real news and stop being part of the problem.
is the program Black in America available on DVD?
