Non-profit fundraiser events are a cake walk on Eventbrite. In this case, literally! The LEAF Foundation is a new non-profit dedicated to providing scholarships to children with special needs. Cake Walk is their first event and offers an informational fair, expert sessions, and a silent auction, which will include delectable cakes from local bakeries. Famed writer/director of the Penitentiary movies, Jamaa Fanaka, is hosting a workshop in Austin this Thursday. Fanaka is one of the important black filmmakers that came out of UCLA film school in the seventies. Released in 1979, Penitentiary was the third feature film that Fanaka completed while attending UCLA. It became the biggest-grossing independent film release that year. The Eventbrite team has finally settled into a cozy new shared environment. We are kind of in an industrial loft, adjacent to a couple of great companies, where we all work under the same roof, but in our own separate corners, literally! Think of it as room mates, but in this case, we're office mates. Not bad considering the floor space.
